Revenue Schedule Preparation Research: Source Checks Before Period Close
Revenue schedule support should tie each prepared row to an approved service record, period rule, and owner review.
Research date: 2026-08-07. Scope: operational research for a billing owner designing a Philippines-based support workflow; this is not legal, coding, or clinical advice.
Revenue schedule preparation starts with the service or contract record that supports the period allocation. The queue should show the account, source agreement, service dates, schedule rule, prior schedule, current prepared amount, exception status, and reviewer.
Method: I compared the current CMS billing and coding references with HHS privacy and security requirements, NIST control guidance, ONC safety material, and AHRQ communication guidance. The result is a control-oriented checklist: preserve the source record, separate preparation from approval, and make exceptions visible.
Compare the schedule to the source record and prior period. Flag starts and stops, amendments, missing dates, manual overrides, duplicate rows, unusual allocations, and differences that the rule does not explain. Preserve the report or contract version used for the check.
A practical first-week test is to give the specialist a small mixed queue, require a source reference on every completed item, and review all exceptions before increasing access. Measure completeness, correct routing, aging, and rework rather than raw item volume.
A specialist can prepare rows and document the comparison. The finance owner approves recognition judgments, amendments, overrides, material exceptions, and close sign-off. Do not turn an unresolved source gap into a clean schedule.
